Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 egg whites, beaten stiff
  • Creamed
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sorghum molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond flavoring
  • Dry
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/3 cup maraschino cherries, chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Beat egg whites stiff.

  • Step 3: Grease and wax paper 2 - 8 inch round pans, pam spray them.

  • Step 4: In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.

  • Step 5: Add egg yolks, almond flavoring and sorghum molasses.

  • Step 6: In another bowl, sift (whisk) flour, salt and baking powder.

  • Step 7: Add walnuts.

  • Step 8: Add alternately with milk.

  • Step 9: Mix in cherries.

  • Step 10: Mix in egg whites gently.

  • Step 11: Pour into prepared pans.

  • Step 12: Bake for 30 minutes or until just done.

  • Step 13: Cool, pull off waxed paper; and they said frost with 7 minute frosting, a go to in the 1950s. plus baking powder. George didn't have it lol
