Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 kilogram broad beans, fava, shelled (2 pounds)
  • 1 onion, chopped finely
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped finely
  • 1/2 chili, de seeded and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 40 grams lard (1 1/2 ounces)
  • 225 milliliters stock (8 fluid ounces or 1 cup)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, fresh, chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Shell the beans and put into a bowl of cold water and leave for 15 minutes to soften.

  • Step 2: Meanwhile finely chop the onion and garlic, de seed the chilli and finely chop.

  • Step 3: Heat the oil & lard in a deep pan, add the chopped ingredients (onion, garlic and chilli) and cook over a low heat for a few minutes, to cook to translucent but not to brown color.

  • Step 4: Pour in the stock & add the drained beans; cover with a lid and stirring from time to time until the beans are tender (this will take about 20 minutes).

  • Step 5: Taste and adjust the seasoning & serve hot with a sprinkle of parsley.
