  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • Sugar
  • 1 1/8 cups oil
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • Glaze
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  • Step 2: Grease and lightly spray a large loaf pan or 5-6 small loaf pans.

  • Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder

  • Step 4: In another bowl, beat the eggs, vanilla, almond extract, butter, and milk until well combined.

  • Step 5: Gradually fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed.

  • Step 6: Add the oil and sugar, and mix until smooth.

  • Step 7: Then, stir in the poppy seeds.

  • Step 8: Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and spread evenly.

  • Step 9: For a large loaf pan, bake for 1 hour.

  • Step 10: For smaller loaf pans, start checking for doneness at 45-50 minutes.

  • Step 11: The bread is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  • Step 12: Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then remove from the pan.

  • Step 13: In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, salt, sugar, almond extract, butter extract, and vanilla extract.

  • Step 14: Heat over low heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is well combined (about 2-3 minutes).

  • Step 15: Pour the warm glaze over the top of the bread while it’s still warm.

  • Step 16: Allow the bread to cool for a few minutes, then slice.
