  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 12 ounces sour cream
  • 4 teaspoons onions, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 8 ounces American cheese, shredded
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Topping
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cook potatoes in jacket in heavily salted boiling water until done.

  • Step 2: Drain, peel and grate.

  • Step 3: Season lightly.

  • Step 4: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 5: Sauce: Melt butter with onions, season lightly.

  • Step 6: Add sour cream and cheese and melt.

  • Step 7: Add potatoes.

  • Step 8: Pour into a heavily buttered (2 tablespoons butter) 9x13 casserole.

  • Step 9: Dot with 2 teaspoons butter.

  • Step 10: Sprinkle on paprika.

  • Step 11: Bake 30 minutes in oven until lightly browned and hot and bubbly.
