  • 28 ounces tomatoes (1 can)
  • 2 carrots, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon beef bouillon
  • 1 pound potatoes, peeled, diced (3)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 12 cups water
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 ounces brown rice (1/2 cup)
  • 2 ounces quick barley (1/4 cup)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Bring navy beans and water to boil for 5 minutes. Simmer for 30 minutes.

  • Step 2: Brown hamburger and onions, season lightly and drain.

  • Step 3: Add hamburger mixture, tomatoes, carrots, garlic powder, bouillon, potatoes, pepper, celery, onion, salt and rice.

  • Step 4: Cook for 50 minutes covered.

  • Step 5: Add barley an cook for 20 minutes.

  • Step 6: Add water as needed, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 7: Season to taste.
