  • 1 cup graham flour
  • 1 cup corn meal
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • Wet
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup molasses

How to Make

  • Step 1: Whisk dry ingredients.

  • Step 2: Add wet ingredients and mix just until moist.

  • Step 3: Butter cans and fill 2/3 full and cover with aluminum foil.

  • Step 4: Put in boiling water 2/3's up sides. Cover and steam for 3 hours.

  • Step 5: Remove and bake cans for 10 minutes uncovered at 350 degrees until dried.

  • Step 6: Remove from cans and slice.
