Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 yams or 8 sweet potatoes (cookbook doesn't state weight, so depending on the size of the potatoes, it's up to you on how many to use and how many it will serve)
  • 1 1/3 cups light brown sugar (well packed)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • Dash of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon molasses
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 2/3 cup water

How to Make

  • Step 1: Boil the yams or sweet potatoes until tender. Drain, cool, peel, cut in halves lengthwise. Place in greased baking pan.

  • Step 2: Preheat oven to 375-degrees F.

  • Step 3: In a saucepan, mix all remaining ingredients for 6 minutes. Then pour it over the potatoes. Bake for about 30 minutes. Every few minutes, baste the potatoes with the liquid syrup.
