Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/4 pounds chicken thighs (8 thighs, or desired chicken pieces or thick-cut pork chops)
  • Salt and fresh ground black pepper
  • Oil, as desired for browning
  • 295 grams applesauce (chunky, 1 1/4 cups)
  • 1 1/4 cups barbecue sauce (use your favorite)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons brown sugar (or to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder (mild)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.

  • Step 2: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season skin side of chicken with salt and pepper. Add to the skillet and brown on both sides (about (3 minutes per side). Transfer skin-side up into baking dish.

  • Step 3: In a bowl combine the BBQ sauce with all remaining ingredients (depending on how sweet your BBQ sauce is I recommend starting with 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar then adding in more to taste). Pour sauce over the chicken pieces turing the pieces to coat in the sauce (chicken should be skin-side up before baking).

  • Step 4: Bake uncovered for about 40-50 minutes or until tender and cooked through (cooking time will vary for different chicken pieces or for pork chops.
