Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds broccoli, rinsed, trimmed and cut into florets
  • 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Tarka
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (black or brown seeds)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon black sesame seeds or nigella seeds
  • 4 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried red chili flakes

How to Make

  • Step 1: To prepare the broccoli over medium high heat; add oil to wok or skillet and then add the broccoli after the oil starts to simmer and is hot.

  • Step 2: Stir fry the broccoli until heated through (2-5 minutes) and when the broccoli is hot add the salt and water and then reduce heat to medium; cover and cook for 3-5 minutes or until tender crisp.

  • Step 3: Remove from heat; cover and set aside.

  • To make the Tarka:

  • Step 4: Using a saute pan over medium high heat add the oil and heat oil until shimmering and then add the mustard seeds and when they pop add the cumin and black sesame seeds (nigella seeds) and fry for a few seconds.

  • Step 5: Stir in garlic and stir until it is golden (less than 1 minute) and then add the red chili flakes and stir for a few seconds. Pour mixture over the broccoli.

  • Step 6: Transfer broccoli to a serving bowl and serve immediately.
