Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Cream shortening and brown sugar.

  • Step 3: Add egg yolk.

  • Step 4: Mix all of the dry ingredients together except the egg white and the walnuts.

  • Step 5: Cream mixture for 5 minutes.

  • Step 6: Beat egg white in bowl and set aside with nuts.

  • Step 7: Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in the egg whites.

  • Step 8: Roll dough balls in nuts then press in the middle with your thumb.

  • Step 9: Place flattened balls on cookie sheet and bake until golden brown, about 8 minutes.

  • Step 10: Remove from oven, transfer cookies to rack and let cool.

  • Step 11: When cool, top with icing(?).
