Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2: Cream shortening and brown sugar.
Step 3: Add egg yolk.
Step 4: Mix all of the dry ingredients together except the egg white and the walnuts.
Step 5: Cream mixture for 5 minutes.
Step 6: Beat egg white in bowl and set aside with nuts.
Step 7: Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in the egg whites.
Step 8: Roll dough balls in nuts then press in the middle with your thumb.
Step 9: Place flattened balls on cookie sheet and bake until golden brown, about 8 minutes.
Step 10: Remove from oven, transfer cookies to rack and let cool.
Step 11: When cool, top with icing(?).
