Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 10 1/2 ounces firm tofu, drained, pressed for 10 minutes (1 block)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • Sweet and Sour Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons fresh root ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha chili sauce, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Garnish
  • 4 spring onions, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 8 lime wedges
  • 14 ounces cooked white rice, hot

How to Make

  • Step 1: Assemble all sauce ingredients together while tofu is being pressed.

  • Step 2: Make the sweet and sour sauce.

  • Step 3: Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl and set aside.

  • Step 4: Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a small saucepan.

  • Step 5: Add the garlic and ginger and fry for a few seconds until fragrant.

  • Step 6: Then whisk in the remaining sauce ingredients and the cornstarch mixture and bring to the boil.

  • Step 7: Cook for a minute until thickened, then remove from the heat and set aside.

  • Step 8: Cut the tofu into 2cm/3/4 inch cubes.

  • Step 9: Place the cornstarch, soy sauce and 1 tablespoons oil in a bowl and mix well to create a batter.

  • Step 10: Add the tofu cubes and stir until coated in the batter.

  • Step 11: Heat 3 tablespoons oil in a frying pan over a medium–high heat.

  • Step 12: Add the tofu and cook for about 3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy all over.

  • Step 13: If to much oil drain.

  • Step 14: Add the sweet and sour sauce, stir to coat the tofu, and cook over a low–medium heat for about 2 minutes until hot.

  • Step 15: Serve immediately garnished with spring onions and sesame seeds, with lime wedges on the side, and rice.
