The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup self rising flour
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 4 ounces american cheese (4 slices)
  • 4 ounces hamburger buns (4)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Gently crumble the ground beef into a bowl.

  • Step 2: Whisk seasoning into flour

  • Step 3: Add the flour mixture and mix gently.

  • Step 4: Add three tablespoons milk and mix gently.

  • Step 5: The mixture should be moist, but not gooey.

  • Step 6: You can add a bit more flour, if needed.

  • Step 7: Form the meat into 4 patties and place on waxed paper.

  • Step 8: Cover with another piece of waxed paper.

  • Step 9: Using a cutting board, press down on the patties gently and flatten them.

  • Step 10: The finished patties should be thin and about the diameter of a saucer.

  • Step 11: They will shrink!

  • Step 12: Fry in a bit of shortening until brown and crispy, turning only once, if possible.

  • Step 13: Don't press them with the spatula.

  • Step 14: Remove from pan and top with cheese.

  • Step 15: Remove grease from skillet, but don’t wipe.

  • Step 16: Place buns in skillet, return to stove top and "toast" over medium heat.

  • Step 17: Place burgers on buns.

  • Step 18: Add toppings and condiments of choice.
