Step 1: Sort beans and soak overnight.
Step 2: Drain and rinse beans in the morning.
Step 3: Combine in slow cooker with ham, onion powder, and garlic powder.
Step 4: Top with enough water to cover beans.
Step 5: Cook on low approximately nine hours, or on high four and a half hours or until beans are tender.
Step 6: Add water as needed.
Step 7: Season to taste.
Step 8: Top each serving with a tablespoon of pickle relish and a tablespoon of chopped raw onion.
