Step 1: In a small frying pan, heat oil and garlic on a medium heat for four to five minutes, until tender.
Step 2: Drain off most of the bean juice from the can, leaving just a few splashes, behind, then tip the beans and the remaining can juices into the pan.
Step 3: Stir in the kale, lemon juice and zest, and a pinch of salt, and simmer for three minutes to wilt the greens.
Step 4: Mash the bean mixture with the milk.
Step 5: Heat another skillet with oil.
Step 6: Add sausage, poultry seasoning and fennel seeds cook until brown.
Step 7: Drain and put over mashed beans.
Step 8: Season to taste.
