Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak; sliced thinly
  • 2 green bell peppers; sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed chili flakes, or adjust to taste
  • 1 to 2 (14 ounce) cans diced tomatoes; drained
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced (can use more)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in a large skillet until very hot (use as much oil as desired). Add the meat and stir-fry until browned. Add the onion, chili flakes, water, garlic and ginger; bring mixture to a boil, cover and cook/simmer for about 5-7 minutes. Add the bell peppers, cover and cook about 5 more minutes or until the peppers are tender. Add the drained tomatoes.

  • Step 2: Combine the sugar, corn starch, and soy sauce in a bowl and whisk together until well combined. Add this mixture to the meat and pepper mixture and bring to a boil. Continue to cook uncovered, until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over cooked rice.
