  • 2 ounces diced bacon (2 thick slices)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 28 ounces canned diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cook diced bacon in a large skillet with a tight-fitting lid until crisp.

  • Step 2: Add ground beef and brown well.

  • Step 3: Add remaining ingredients in layers, being sure that the macaroni is well dampened (make sure there is liquid splashed over the macaroni on every layer).

  • Step 4: Cover with tight-fitting lid; cook over high heat until steam escapes the lid.

  • Step 5: Turn down to simmer and cook for 30 minutes (or until the macaroni is tender).
