Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 cups pecans, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 10 (1 inch thick) slices challah bread (or your favorite thick sliced sweet bread)
  • To make the syrup
  • 1 cup blackberries, frozen
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper

  • Step 3: In a bowl whisk together the first 5 ingredients (eggs - salt) In another pie pan or shallow dish combine the pecans and cinnamon.

  • Step 4: Over medium low heat heat a cast-iron griddle sprayed with cooking spray.

  • Step 5: Coat the bread slices in the egg mixture then press into the pecan mixture (shaking off excess). Place bread slices on griddle and cook until browned (4-5 minutes per side). Place on prepared baking sheet and place in oven to keep warm. Serve with blackberry syrup and whipped cream.

  • Step 6: *NOTE* To make the black berry syrup. --This makes one cup--

  • Step 7: In saucepan over medium low heat stir together the blackberries, sugar and lemon zest. In a small cup or bowl whisk together 1 cup water and cornstarch. Add cornstarch mixture to berry mixture and bring to a boil over medium high heat, cook stirring occasionally for 15 minutes or until thickened. Let cool before serving.
