The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup onions, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 7 ounces dry basmati rice, (1 cup)
  • 7 ounces dry lentils, (1 cup)
  • 2 1/2 cups water

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix spices together and set aside.

  • Step 2: Heat oil in stockpot on medium heat.

  • Step 3: Add onion, cook until translucent.

  • Step 4: Add garlic, ginger and spices.

  • Step 5: Cook a minute stirring around.

  • Step 6: Add water.

  • Step 7: Simmer 45 minutes covered.

  • Step 8: Take off heat let rest covered 5 minutes and check for seasoning and that lentils are cooked through.
