Step 1: Mix together the dry ingredients
Step 2: Whisk wet ingredients
Step 3: Add to dry ingredients and use blender or whisk well so no lumps
Step 4: Heat a large skillet.
Step 5: When the skillet is hot, add 1/2 tablespoon butter and some oil
Step 6: If the butter smokes, your pan is too hot; turn down the heat.
Step 7: Dip each slice of bread into the batter for 30 seconds on each side.
Step 8: Let some of the batter drip off, then put in skillet.
Step 9: Cook each slice 1 1/2-2 minutes per side until each side is golden brown.
Step 10: Add more butter and oil to cook all of the slices.
Step 11: To serve, put on plate, dust with powdered sugar. Serve with butter on top
Step 12: Hot syrup on side
