Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 6 cups water
  • 6 ounces smoked ham hock
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cans (30 ounces) white kidney beans,(15 ounces each)
  • Garnish:
  • 4 ounces sour cream,(1/4 cup)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Saute onions and carrots in oil in stock pot

  • Step 2: Add tomato paste, rinse out can with water and add to pot

  • Step 3: Add water and bay leaf

  • Step 4: Season to taste (they didn't have salt in recipe you do you)

  • Step 5: Add ham hock

  • Step 6: Simmer for 1 hour

  • Step 7: Add beans undrained simmer 30 more minutes

  • Step 8: Take out Bay leaf and debone hock

  • Step 9: Chop meat add back to pot

  • Step 10: Season to taste

  • Step 11: Last 5 minutes add sour cream don't boil
