Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 green pepper, very fine dice
  • 3-4 cloves minced garlic
  • 10 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 12 ounces pasta, I usually use penne
  • 1 tomato can full of water
  • Fresh parmesan, for topping
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

How to Make

  • Step 1: Onion and green pepper in the olive oil until translucent. Add ground round, salt, pepper and onion powder and brown the ground round until it starts to develop a nice, brown crust

  • Step 2: Add garlic, continue to cook 2-3 minutes. Add both cans of tomatoes and fresh basil to a food processor, whir until smooth.

  • Step 3: Add tomatoes and basil and one can water to ground round mixture. Add dry pasta, stir well. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 15-18 minutes or until pasta is al dente. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and fresh parmesan to serve.
