  • Spaetzle:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1⁄32 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 6 cups water,boiling
  • Green beans:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 16 ounces frozen green beans
  • 1 tablespoons onion,minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/16 teaspoon nutmeg

How to Make

  • Step 1: Spatzael:

  • Step 2: Sift dry ingredients together

  • Step 3: Make a depression in the center

  • Step 4: Add egg and 1 cup water, or enough to make a medium batter.

  • Step 5: Pour into the well

  • Step 6: Beat the batter only until it is smooth.

  • Step 7: Let rest 2 hours in the frig

  • Step 8: Pour the batter on plate ( put dough on a smooth rim plate and tip the plate till it started to slide off and cut off the dough in slivers with a butter knife into the boiling water.

  • Step 9: When they float they are done and can be skimmed off and put in a bowl.)

  • Step 10: And let the Spaetzle fall directly into a pot of simmering water

  • Step 11: Stir gently so that they do not stick together.

  • Step 12: When the Spaetzle rise to the surface they are sufficiently cooked.

  • Step 13: Drain the Spaetzle well

  • Step 14: Add to buttered green beans and cook until warmed

  • Step 15: Beans:

  • Step 16: Heat butter and onions

  • Step 17: Add thawed green beans

  • Step 18: Add cooked spatzael

  • Step 19: Season to taste
