  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • Whipped cream
  • Strawberries

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a heavy saucepan, combine water and butter and bring to a full boil.

  • Step 2: Reduce heat and add flour and salt all at once, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon until mixture forms a smooth ball. Remove from heat.

  • Step 3: Add eggs, one at a time, beating vigorously after each, and continue beating until dough is smooth and shiny. Chill dough a few minutes in refrigerator.

  • Step 4: Drop by large spoonfuls on to lightly greased baking sheet, mounding each high in centre.

  • Step 5: Bake in 425°F oven for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes longer or until well puffed, crisp and golden brown. Cool thoroughly on wire racks.

  • Step 6: Cut a thin slice from the top of each puff. Remove any moist filaments of dough inside.

  • Step 7: Fill with whipped cream and top with fruit. If desired, replace "lid" and dust lightly with icing sugar.
