  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 2/3 cups chopped nuts (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cups flour

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl beat the brown sugar and shortening with an electric mixer until well mixed.

  • Step 3: Add baking soda, baking powder and salt.

  • Step 4: Beat until combined, scraping bowl often.

  • Step 5: Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.

  • Step 6: Add flour and sour cream alternately to beaten mixture, beating until combined after each addition.

  • Step 7: Stir in 2/3 cup chopped nuts.

  • Step 8: Drop by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets.

  • Step 9: Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

  • Step 10: Transfer to wire racks and let cool.

  • Step 11: Spread cooled cookies with Browned Butter Frosting and if desired, top with additional chopped nuts or walnut halves.
