Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl cream the butter with both sugars until fluffy (about 3 minutes). Add in eggs and vanilla; continue beating for another 2 minutes.
Step 3: In a small bowl combine the flour with baking soda, salt and if using, the cinnamon; add to the creamed mixture beating on low speed until just combined (batter will be thick). Mix in chocolate chips and nuts.
Step 4: Transfer/spread into baking pan using a spoon or clean hands spread out evenly in the pan (this may take a few minutes as the batter is very thick). Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
