Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 1/4 pounds apples (8 medium apples, cored and quartered,combination of Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, Fuji or Gala)
  • 1 orange, peeled and cut into segments
  • 1 large lemon,or 2 small lemons, peeled and cut into segments
  • 2/3 cup cranberries (fresh)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (substitute with white sugar, coconut sugar, maple syrup, honey or stevia)
  • 9 cups water (or enough water to cover fruit)
  • Rum or vodka (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place apples, orange, lemon and cranberries in a 6 quart slow cooker..

  • Step 2: Add cinnamon sticks, cloves and pour water until you cover all of the fruit.

  • Step 3: Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.

  • Step 4: Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release the juices. Cover and cook an additional 60 minutes on low.

  • Step 5: Carefully strain the solids from the liquids using a stainer over a large bowl or second crock pot. Return cider to the original crock pot after removing fruit stuck to the crock or turn the heat to low if serving from a 2nd crockpot. If not serving immediately, pour into pitcher with lid or jug which can be stored in the refrigerator.

  • Step 6: To serve, using soup ladle, fill mug, adding 1 shot of rum or vodka if desired. If serving after cooled in the refrigerator, fill mug and microwave until hot.
