We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°.

  • Step 2: In a medium bowl, cream together the sugars and shortening using an electric mixer. Mix on slow speed 30 seconds, then scrape down the bowl with a spatula. Increase speed to medium and mix for 3 minutes.

  • Step 3: Slowly add vanilla and beaten egg while mixing.

  • Step 4: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the mixing bowl, mixing on slow speed until just blended. Do not overmix.

  • Step 5: Scoop with an ice-cream scoop and roll in sugar. (Or leave plain and frost after baking.) Place directly on cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with palm of hand.

  • Step 6: Bake at 375° for 9-10 minutes. Cookies are done when small cracks appear and are pale golden. Ideally, the edges do not brown.

  • Step 7: Optional Frosting: Beat together the butter, vanilla, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of cream until well blended. Add alternating portions of 2 tablespoons of cream with another 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, beat well. Continue adding in portions the sugar and cream until you have incorporated all the sugar. Add additional cream as necessary.
