  • Step 1: Heat butter and flour together ,dont brown

  • Step 2: Add salt and pepper

  • Step 3: Add light cream

  • Step 4: Heat until thickened

  • Step 5: Add cheese off the heat

  • Step 6: Stir

  • Step 7: Allow to melt covered

  • Step 8: Spoon over toast

  • Step 9: Sprinkle with paprika

  • Step 10: They probably heated this under the broiler that was a popular thing to do
