Step 1: Cream together 1/2 cup shortning and 1 cup sugar. Add in 2 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla; beat well. Sift together 2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp soda 1/4 tsp salt; Add to creamed mixture alternately with 1 cup sour cream. Fold in 2 cups finely chopped peeled apples. Transfer to a greased 9 x 13 pan.
Step 2: Combine 1/2 cup chopped nuts (or more) 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 tablespoons melted butter; sprinkle on top.
Step 3: Bake 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes.
