Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 35 wrapped caramels
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons half and half cream (or milk)
  • 1/4 cup plus 3/4 cup butter, divided
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (6 ounce) package milk chocolate chips

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

  • Step 2: Heat the caramels over low heat with cream or milk and 1/4 cup butter until the caramels are melted stirring constantly; set aside.

  • Step 3: In a bowl mix 3/4 cup soft butter with flour, baking soda, oatmeal, brown sugar, and salt; tranfer 3/4 of the oat mixture into baking dish (reserve the rest to sprinkle on later). Bake for 10 minutes.

  • Step 4: Remove from oven pour the warm melted caramel mixture over the baked base then sprinkle the milk chocolate chips over the caramel. Sprinkle remaining base crumb mixture over top. Return to oven for another 15 minutes --- DO NOT overbake!
