Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 tablespoons oil (butter or pan drippings from bacon or sausage)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 can (15 ounce) diced tomatoes (drained)
  • 1 cup water (or 1 cup chicken broth)
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar, optional

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in a large skillet, over medium heat.

  • Step 2: Stir in flour, and cook and stir until light brown.

  • Step 3: Season to taste with salt and pepper.

  • Step 4: Pour in diced tomatoes and 1 cup water/chicken broth, and stir well. Reduce heat.

  • Step 5: Pour in tomato sauce, and stir. Add in sugar, if using, and stir.

  • Step 6: Cover, and simmer 15 minutes, or until thick.

  • Step 7: Serve over hot biscuits or use any other way you want to.
