Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 cups self raising flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (a large pinch was specified)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup water

How to Make

  • Step 1: Into a large bowl add the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar mix to combine and then add a good pinch and nutmeg and mix once again to combine and then rub in the butter.

  • Step 2: Make a well in the middle and add the combined milk and water and mix till a smooth dough is formed.

  • Step 3: At this point you can make small damper rolls or one large damper and put them it into a cake pan and then put them in to a floured cake pan and make a cross in each roll or one large cross if doing just one damper and then put cake pan into the Dutch oven and place the lid on and then put on the hot coals or briquettes and shovel some hot coals on top and bake for 45 to 50 minutes for small rolls and about 1 to 1 1/4 hours for a big damper loaf.

  • Step 4: If you wish to make at home put in a preheated 175C oven.
