  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup coffee, strong
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • Frosting:
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoons butter

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs

  • Step 2: Add vanilla

  • Step 3: Sift all the dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with coffee

  • Step 6: Spread 1/4 inch thick

  • Step 7: Bake at 375 for 25 minutes

  • Step 10: Cook until syrup forms soft ball in water

  • Step 11: Stir only until boiling begins

  • Step 12: Add butter

  • Step 13: Cool to lukewarm add beat until frosting starts to thicken

  • Step 14: Spread thin layer over creams
