Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 whole lemon (juice plus 2 strips of lemon peel which are 2 inches long x 1/2 inch wide)
  • 1 can (12 ounce) ginger ale
  • Ginger root (6 slices)
  • 4 whole pears (your favorite but it is best if they are slightly under-ripe), with the stems intact
  • 2 tablespoons crystallized ginger (chopped)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a bowl combine and lemon juice with 4 cups water. Place the gingerale, lemon peel and fresh ginger in the slow cooker insert. Peel pears, leaving the stem intact and cut a tiny slice from of the bottom of each pear so they can stand upright. When the pears are peeled dip them in the lemon water and then stand them in the ginger liquid in the slow cooker.

  • Step 2: Cover and cook on low (DO NOT COOK ON HIGH). Turn off and allow pears to cool in poaching liquid. Chill in the liquid.

  • Step 3: To serve, arrange each pear on a deep plate and spoon poaching liquid over pears. Garnish with cream or yogurt and sprinkle with chopped crystallized ginger.
