Step 1: Cream shortening and sugar together in large bowl.
Step 2: Pour scalded milk over mixture.
Step 3: Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let cool.
Step 4: Combine two mixtures together using hand mixer. Add salt and egg.
Step 5: Add flour one cup at a time until until dough can be worked by hand.
Step 6: Put dough in large greased bowl. Grease top of dough ball.
Step 7: Allow to rise until doubled in bulk. Cover with hot damp cloth several times.
Step 8: Let rise two hours in warm spot.
Step 9: Toss on board with enough flour to keep from sticking to board. Knead bread for five minutes working outside edges in.
Step 10: Kneading with ball of hand. Repeating until dough no longer sticks to the board, is bubbly and puffs back up.
Step 11: Divide into two equal loaves, then place in two greased baking dishes. Let dough rise again until double in bulk.
Step 12: Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes (note: pre-heat oven).
Step 13: Reduce to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes longer.
Step 14: Bake until bread is brown and shrinks from the side of the dish.
Step 15: Remove and turn out to cool on wire tray.
Step 16: Slice when bread is cold.
