Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 slices (4 ounces) bacon (or ham, diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 4 cans (14.5 ounce) French style green beans (drained)
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup dried onions (French fried onions, divided)
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar works well)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Add the meat to a large skillet over medium heat and fry until crisp. Add the garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for one minute.

  • Step 3: Whisk in the flour and let it brown for just a second. Whisk in the milk and continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the mixture has thickened to the consistency of a gravy.

  • Step 4: Add the drained green beans to a large mixing bowl and pour the bacon mixture over the top. Add salt, pepper and half of the onions. Stir well to combine.

  • Step 5: Spread into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the top with the cheese.

  • Step 6: Bake for 35 minutes uncovered. Sprinkle the remaining onions over the top of the casserole and continue baking for 5 minutes.

  • Step 7: Serve immediately.
