Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup raisins
  • FOR GLAZE
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons water, hot

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix all ingredients, except for glaze ingredients, if dough is soft, cover and chill

  • Step 2: Preheat oven to 375.

  • Step 3: Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.

  • Step 4: For the glaze: Melt the butter in a sauce pan, heating until butter until it is a delicate brown. Add in sugar and vanilla. Add one tablespoon of water at a time, until glaze it the right consistency

  • Step 5: Bake 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched with a finger

  • Step 6: Immediately remove from baking sheet.

  • Step 7: Cool and spread with browned butter glaze
