Step 1: In a large bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium to high for 30 seconds
Step 2: Add sugar and beat till combined
Step 3: Add milk and vanilla
Step 4: Beat in as much of the flour as you can and stir in the remaining flour, cherries and pecans
Step 5: Divide dough in half
Step 6: Shape each half into an 8 inch log
Step 7: Roll each log in coconut and wrap in plastic wrap and chill 2-24 hours
Step 8: Preheat oven to 375 F
Step 9: Cut logs into 1/4 inch slices and place an inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet
Step 10: Bake 8-10 minutes, or until edges are golden brown
Step 11: Transfer to wire racks to cool
