  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (or 1 cup dark brown sugar)
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries (drained, chopped)
  • 1 cup dates (chopped)

How to Make
