Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 ounces self-rising flour
  • 1/32 teaspoon salt (JUST A PINCH!)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 ounces butter (Welsh butter diced)
  • 3 ounces Caerphilly cheese (finely grated DIVIDED USE)
  • 4 ounces dried pears (finely chopped)
  • 5 ounces plain yogurt (natural yogurt)
  • 2 ounces milk (fresh milk)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a large baking sheet and set aside.

  • Step 2: Sieve the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl and lightly rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

  • Step 3: Stir in 2 oz of the cheese and the dried pears and stir in enough of the yogurt and milk to form a soft dough.

  • Step 4: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently. Roll or pat out the dough until it is 3/4 inch thick. Using a 2 inch biscuit cutter, cut the dough into rounds and place them on the baking sheet, leaving a little space in between each one.

  • Step 5: Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until risen and golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Serve warm or cold.
