Step 1: Spray a 9x1-1/2-inch round baking pan with nonstick spray; set pan aside.
Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda.
Step 3: Add water, cooking oil, vinegar, and vanilla.
Step 4: Stir until thoroughly combined.
Step 5: In a medium mixing bowl beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
Step 6: Fold into batter.
Step 7: Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
Step 8: Bake in a 350 degree F oven about 25 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Step 9: Cool cake in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes.
Step 10: Remove cake from pan and cool thoroughly on wire rack.
Step 11: Spread whipped desert topping over top and sides of cooled cake.
Step 12: Top with pie filling.
