Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 12 ounces dry ziti penne pasta (cooked to only about halfway then drained)
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce (or use homemade)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 carton (15 ounces) ricotta cheese (or can use cottage cheese or half each)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, then grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.

  • Step 2: In a large skillet cook beef with onion until browned (about 15 minutes (adding in the garlic the last 2 minutes of cooking).

  • Step 3: Stir in spaghetti sauce reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste during cooking

  • Step 4: Meanwhile In a large bowl, combine the eggs, ricotta cheese, 1-1/2 cups mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese until thoroughly combined; mix in the cooked pasta.

  • Step 5: Spoon one-third of the meat sauce into baking dish; top with half of the pasta mixture. Repeat layers. Top with remaining meat sauce.

  • Step 6: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes; uncover,sprinkle with remaining 1-1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, then return to oven to bake another 8-10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted (let stand for 15 minutes before serving).
