Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced well (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper, dash
  • 1 cup dry grits (uncooked quick grits)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Hot sauce, dash, optional

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt the butter in pot.

  • Step 2: Finely mince the garlic and add it to the melted butter, cooking just until tender.

  • Step 3: Add water.

  • Step 4: Just as the water is about to boil, turn down to medium and stir in the cream.

  • Step 5: Add the salt,and pepper.

  • Step 6: And then slowly add in the grits, stirring with a whisk constantly the entire time you are adding them in.

  • Step 7: When the grits begin to bubble, turn heat down to a medium low simmer, and continue cooking, stirring often, until mixture is thickened and creamy, about 5 minutes

  • Step 8: Stir in the cheese.

  • Step 9: Cook the grits only long enough for the cheese to melt. Taste and adjust seasoning.

  • Step 10: Serve with a couple dashes of hot sauce if desired.
