Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (soured milk, buttermilk or water)
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, chopped
  • 12 ounces glace cherries (halved,chopped, it called for 2 cups)
  • 12 ounces pitted dates (chopped, it called for 2 cups)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix shortening, sugar and eggs well. Stir in soured milk.

  • Step 2: Sift dry ingredients and stir in. Stir in pecans, cherries and dates. Chill at least one hour.

  • Step 3: Heat oven to 400 degrees.

  • Step 4: Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.

  • Step 5: Place a pecan half on each cookie.

  • Step 6: Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
