Step 1: Whisk the cold water or pineapple juice with 2 tablespoons cornstarch until smooth; set aside
Step 2: To a saucepan, melt butter; Add in onions and saute for about 3 minutes or until soft.
Step 3: To saucepan, add in all remaining ingredients, Re-whisk the water cornstarch mix again then add to saucepan; bring to a simmer whisking continuously until thickened, then continue simmering on low heat for about 8-10 minutes (season with pepper about halfway through cooking).
