Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons bacon fat (can use butter or oil)
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/3 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon celery, chopped
  • 225 grams dry rice (whole grain brown, 1 cup dry)
  • 3 cups water (boiling)
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce (or can use 3 tablespoons tomato paste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in a heavy skillet.

  • Step 2: Saute onion, pepper, garlic and celery until tender. Do not brown.

  • Step 3: Stir in rice, stirring until well mixed and rice is lightly browned.

  • Step 4: Add water, tomato sauce and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook over very low heat, covered, until rice is light and fluffy.

  • Step 5: Stir lightly with a fork before serving.

  • Step 6: Grains should be whole and firm.
