Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/4 cup cake flour (sifted)
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, crushed

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F ( for a dark colored pan, reduce the heat to 340).

  • Step 2: Mix the nuts, 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon together- set aside.

  • Step 3: In a stand mixer, cream the butter then add 1 cup of the sugar - beat until thick and light in color.

  • Step 4: Add the egg- beat well.

  • Step 5: Sift together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

  • Step 6: Add the dry mixture to the mixing bowl, alternate with the milk - Mix until well combined.

  • Step 7: Butter an 8 x 8 " pan - Pour half the batter into the pan- sprinkle half the nut mixture over- then pour the other half of the batter on top- finish with the rest of the nut mixture.

  • Step 8: Bake for approx 25 minutes or until a tester comes at clean.

  • Step 9: Let cool in the pan, set on a cooling rack.
