Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 pound dry pinto beans (pinto beans)
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons salt (I use Lawry's seasoned salt)
  • 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Cayenne pepper, pinch (or more if you want the beans spicy)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (slightly heaping)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Sort & rinse the dry beans. Place beans in heavy pot. Add about 6 cups of water & all of the seasonings. Bring to a heavy boil. Reduce the heat to medium low. Cover with a lid and cook, covered, for 3-5 hours, adding water as needed. The higher your elevation, the longer the beans take to cook.

  • Step 2: When the beans are soft, mash beans with a potato masher or pulse in a food processor to desired consistency. If the beans are too loose/watery for your taste, cook over low heat until they are the thickness that you like.
