  • 3 pounds apples (8 large apples, peeled, cored, and cut into thin wedges)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cups granulated sugar (white)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • FOR THE CRUST

  • Step 2: In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/2 tablespoons white sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening until the mixture is crumbly. Whisk together egg yolks and water, then mix into flour until the dough forms into a ball. Roll out to fit the bottom of a 10 x 15 inch pan. Transfer crust to the pan and evenly press into the bottom.

  • FOR THE FILLING

  • Step 3: In a large bowl, combine apples, lemon juice, 2 tablespoons flour, 2 cups white sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour filling into prepared crust and dot with 2 tablespoons butter.

  • Step 4: In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, brown sugar, and 2/3 cup butter. Cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly, then sprinkle over the apples.

  • Step 5: Bake for 50-60 minutes or until topping is golden brown.
