Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 cups bread crumbs (fresh whole grain bread crumbs)
  • 1/2 cup l% milk
  • 1 pound ground beef (extra-lean beef sirloin)
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage (mild OR spicy Italian sausage, casings removed)
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese (packed, fresh grated)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon minced flat-leaf parsley (fresh)
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place fresh bread crumbs in a small bowl and pour milk over crumbs; let stand for 5 minutes or until crumbs have absorbed milk.

  • Step 2: In a large bowl, combine crumbs with all remaining ingredients, except olive oil.

  • Step 3: Mix well (using your hands works best).

  • Step 4: Shape meat mixture into uniform-sized meatballs (Tip: pack meat mixture into 1/3 cup measuring cup and use this amount for make 2 meatballs).

  • Step 5: Heat olive oil in a deep, non-stick 14" skillet.

  • Step 6: Add meatballs and cook over medium-high heat until lightly browned on all sides being careful not to break them.

  • Step 7: To finish #1:

  • Step 8: Add 2 jars (about 6 cups/1.5L) of your favourite tomato pasta sauce to the skillet.

  • Step 9: Reduce heat, cover and simmer until meatballs are cooked through, about 25 minutes.

  • Step 10: To finish #2:

  • Step 11: Remove meatballs from skillet and transfer to a large baking pan.

  • Step 12: Bake meatballs at 400F for about 20 minutes or until cooked through.
